Internet of Things RFI Survey Extended to Nov. 16
Minnesota Ag Connection - 11/07/2018

The Minnesota Department of Commerce is collecting input from stakeholders (utility and non-utility) on the topic of the Internet of Things (IoT) through a Request for Information (RFI) process. Your input is important, so Commerce has extended the deadline for RFI survey responses to Nov. 16.

IoT refers to the interconnection of everyday devices, objects, or sensors via the Internet, which enables those devices to send, receive, and process data in real time. Examples include smart thermostats, building and home energy management systems, integration of energy management systems with smart meters, smart appliances, commercial advanced lighting controls, and smart manufacturing.

While the potential to achieve greater efficiency through IoT devices and systems is promising, significant challenges remain to adopting and implementing them. As a result, Commerce has issued a request for information (RFI) to:

1. Obtain better information from stakeholders on what would be useful in helping utilities (and Commerce) better assess various options in this growing area for incorporation into the Conservation Improvement Program (CIP), and

2. Identify research needs in this area.

For more information, see the full solicitation (Reference Number COMM-CARD-RFI-20180924) and survey link on the Commerce website.
