2024 Minnesota Hemp License Deadline Approaching Fast

2024 Minnesota Hemp License Deadline Approaching Fast

By Scout Nelson

Minnesota's Department of Agriculture (MDA) is accepting applications for hemp cultivation and processing positions until April 30, 2024, with around 113 applicants already in line, marking a race to secure a spot in this green industry.

The MDA's official website offers newcomers and professionals an application to legally cultivate and process industrial hemp for a year. This is not the same as cannabis for adult use or medical purposes.

Every applicant, including the main contacts of the businesses, must clear a criminal background check, adding a layer of security to the expanding industry. And there's more; every hemp lot awaits its THC content check before harvest, a critical step to ensure compliance with regulations, costing $100 for each test.

Both growers and processors need to apply, with fees starting at $400 and $500 respectively. And keep an eye out; the MDA's random inspections ensure everyone plays by the rules.

Questions? The MDA's Industrial Hemp Program is ready to help at hemp.mda@state.mn.us or over the phone. Remember, this is about growing and processing industrial hemp — a green opportunity awaiting those who act promptly.

For more details on application procedures and requirements, visit the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's website. This is your chance to join Minnesota's green revolution responsibly and legally. Don't let the deadline pass you by!
