Consumers, investors, and many groups of society are requesting livestock producers to decrease the environmental impact of poultry, pork, dairy and beef products. As a result, many food processors, packers, and dairy food companies have developed programs to request their suppliers a better picture of the environmental footprint of the operations. As a nutrition service and product supplier you play a great role in this objective.
In light of these events, the Minnesota Nutrition Conference planning committee selected the topic of fast growing and evolving need for more sustainable livestock production systems for the 83rd conference set for Sept. 21-22 in the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Mankato.
The expanded general session will include talks from experts in sustainable agriculture include:
- Terry Ward "A Journey from Sustainability Skeptic to Supporter"
- Erin Cortus "Metrics, definitions, and approaches"
Other speakers will discuss the current opportunities for livestock nutrition companies including a description of carbon markets. The program organizers for the poultry, swine, dairy and beef sessions are securing speakers and a full program will be available at the end of the month.
