The Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) will be at Farmfest in Redwood County Aug. 2-4. This annual event brings together the best in agribusiness from Minnesota and around the country, giving those involved in agriculture an opportunity to network, learn and grow.
There will be many opportunities to interact with MFBF during the three-day event. Please contact Communications Manager Rachel Reisig for more information or to set up an interview.
Highlights include:
Farm safety is an important issue, especially with youth in agriculture settings. Each day of Farmfest, the MFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee will give away high visibility safety vests at Booth #7 to the first 200 youth 12 and under.
The Farm Bureau pork chop stand (Booth #8) is an annual tradition at Farmfest. Since 1999, the Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation has served up the pork chops, with proceeds supporting the Foundation's efforts to provide agricultural, mental health and other educational opportunities across the state. Working alongside the Foundation are members of the Lyon County Farm Bureau led by grill masters Clyde Madden and Roger Green, who have provided the grills and technique for almost 20 years. The grill masters and Foundation Director Ruth Meirick will be available to talk about the stand, grilling and the Foundation's work across the state.
MFBF will once again sponsor the free pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. on Aug. 3 inside the Wick Building Farmfest Center for the first 1,000 attendees. Legislators often show up to help make and serve the meal.
Farm transition and succession planning plays an important role in helping the next generation of farmers start their careers successfully. MFBF, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, launched the Legacy Building Program, helping families start the conversation. Program manager Paul Lanoue will be available to discuss the program.
