Minnesota is taking steps towards a greener future in farming. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) introduces the Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Sustainable Agriculture Demonstration Grant Program.
This program is keen on supporting projects that push the boundaries in energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and the business side of sustainable farming.
The MDA will select the most innovative projects through a competitive process. The lucky ones can get up to $50,000 for their idea. Here's a catch, though – the first $25,000 is free, but if you ask for more, you'll need to match it dollar-for-dollar.
Past projects have explored topics like crop rotation, pest management, and alternative energies. Successful applicants must be on a Minnesota farm and share their findings with others. The project, which lasts between two to three years, requires successful applicants to share their findings. For a glimpse of past projects, visit the MDA's Greenbook.
The funding for all this comes from the AGRI Program, which has been helping not just farmers, but also schools and businesses in Minnesota.
Applications for the AGRI Sustainable Agriculture Demonstration Grant close on December 7, 2023, with successful applicants expected to receive news in early 2024. More details can be found on the grant webpage.
