The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) has announced the 2025 recipients of the Siehl Prize for Excellence in Agriculture. This award recognizes individuals and teams making significant contributions to the agriculture industry in three categories: Production Agriculture, Agribusiness, and Knowledge.
Funded by the generosity of philanthropist Eldon Siehl, the prize is awarded biennially to those who help feed the world and reduce hunger. Each award includes a $25,000 prize and celebrates innovation, sustainability, and education in the field of agriculture.
In the Production Agriculture category, the award recognizes a long-time leader in sustainable farming and soil conservation. With decades of commitment to organic practices and environmental protection, this individual also helped establish a state-level sustainable agriculture institute and continues to mentor fellow producers.
In the Agribusiness category, two brothers are honored for their global impact in plant breeding and agricultural innovation. One leads global breeding operations at Bayer Crop Science, while the other directs similar efforts at Corteva Agriscience. Together, they guide international teams that develop improved seed genetics to help farmers around the world.
The Knowledge category honors the late professor from the University of Minnesota. His 50-year academic career focused on crop diversification and sustainability. He founded the Forever Green Initiative, promoting continuous living cover and profitable, eco-friendly farming practices. His legacy continues to inspire students and agricultural researchers.
The Siehl Prize brings attention to those shaping the future of agriculture through dedication, innovation, and a commitment to feeding the world sustainably. These laureates exemplify leadership in agricultural progress and education, helping to create a better future for global farming.
