Biden's Minnesota farm visit highlights rural spending benefits

By Scout Nelson

President Joe Biden's upcoming Minnesota farm visit marks the beginning of a two-week tour across rural America. With this, the administration aims to showcase the positive impacts of increased government expenditure on rural lives.

Although the visit follows Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota's presidential campaign announcement, officials clarified the trip's planning occurred well ahead. They stress its primary intent is policy promotion rather than politics.

Together with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Biden intends to spotlight how rural areas benefit from federal investments. Key legislation supported by the White House, like the 2021 public works law and the health care and green energy package, will be highlighted.

The administration is eager to draw attention to advancements in essential rural infrastructure. This encompasses aspects such as high-speed internet, road and bridge safety, clean water access, and dependable energy sources. By focusing on these improvements, the White House aims to convey that rural Americans need not relocate for better economic prospects.

While Phillips' presidential run is noteworthy, the tour's broader implication might be its potential to amplify awareness of Biden's reelection bid. The emphasis on policies popular in rural regions, which have recently leaned Republican, is significant.

This tour will also shed light on administration efforts like the $1 billion initiative to expand independent meat and poultry processing, ultimately aiming for market diversification and price reduction.
