The Minnesota Irrigator Program (MIP) is a hands-on, in-person training course designed to help participants understand and manage the relationship between soil, plants, and water. This 3-day course also teaches efficient irrigation scheduling based on specific crop and soil needs, while including guidance on combining nutrient and water management practices.
Participants will learn how to select suitable sprinkler systems and explore modern technologies like variable rate irrigation and remote sensors to improve water efficiency. These practices help reduce waste, support healthier crops, and promote long-term sustainability in agriculture.
This educational opportunity is ideal for farmers, irrigators, crop advisers, and conservation professionals. It not only builds skills in managing irrigation systems but also provides Certified Education Units (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisers.
The course will be held on three Wednesdays—April 2, 9, and 16—from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendance on all three days is required to complete the certification.
The course fee is $75, which includes both breakfast and lunch. Registration is required and limited to the first 25 participants. The deadline to register is March 19.
The training is conducted in English. Interpreter services may be provided with advance notice. Accommodation requests for people with disabilities should be made at least two weeks before the start of the course.
Additionally, those who complete the MIP and adopt a new irrigation method or scheduling practice may qualify for the Irrigation Endorsement under the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program.
This program provides valuable knowledge and practical skills to improve irrigation efficiency and promote sustainable farming practices.
