Irrigation Field Day Set for July

University of Minnesota Extension, in partnership with the Minnesota Area II Potato and Research Council, is hosting the 2025 Irrigation and Nutrient Management Field Day. The event will take place on Thursday, July 10, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sand Plain Research Farm (SPRF) in Becker, Minnesota.

This free field day includes a self-guided tour, research presentations, and a complimentary dinner. It is designed to highlight new and advanced practices in irrigation and nutrient management for crops.

The day begins with a self-guided field tour from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Visitors can drive their own vehicles to explore various research plots using a provided map.

Presentations at the SPRF operations building start at 4:30 p.m. Topics include potato extension updates, nitrogen and irrigation management, disease resistance, and pest behavior. Experts from the University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University will lead these discussions.

Speakers and topics include:

  • Potato Extension Update – Andy Robinson (NDSU)
  • Precision Potato Management Strategies – Carl Rosen and Yuxin Miao (UMN)
  • Irrigation Management – Vasudha Sharma (UMN)
  • Potato Breeding – Laura Shannon (UMN)
  • Pest Behaviour – Ian MacRae (UMN)
  • Wilt Resistance in Potatoes – Ashish Ranjan (UMN)
  • Corn Nitrogen Management – Fabian Fernandez (UMN)

Dinner will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., provided by the Minnesota Area II Potato Research and Promotion Council and UMN Extension.
