MDA launches key survey for corn and soybean farmers

MDA launches key survey for corn and soybean farmers

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has initiated its yearly survey, this time concentrating on corn and soybean producers. The goal is to gather detailed information on the implementation of nitrogen and pesticide best management practices (BMPs). This effort is crucial for enhancing the MDA's ability to monitor progress, inform educational initiatives, and steer research directions in these areas.

A selected group of 7,600 Minnesota farmers will receive the survey by mail, with follow-up calls scheduled post-March 15 for those who haven't responded. Conducted by the USDA National Agriculture Statistics Service, this survey is part of a broader effort to engage the farming community in sustainable agriculture practices.

As survey season peaks, Minnesota farmers might notice an increase in outreach from various agencies. The MDA emphasizes the unique importance of their survey in contributing to valuable research and educational resources. The findings will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of nitrogen and pesticide usage across the state's agricultural landscapes.

For any inquiries regarding the survey or to explore the results of prior surveys, the MDA has made resources available on their website and offers a dedicated hotline 651-955-4066 from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., Monday – Saturday for farmer support.

This initiative reflects the MDA's commitment to fostering a collaborative approach to sustainable farming in Minnesota, ensuring that both current and future generations of farmers have access to the best tools and knowledge for their operations.
