Governor Tim Walz and other state and industry leaders, including Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen, and representatives from the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association and Hunger Solutions Minnesota, highlighted Minnesota's position as the top turkey producer in the US at a Capitol event.

Minnesota's turkey industry, valued at $12 billion, is a vital part of the state's economy, supporting over 46,000 jobs and raising over 40 million birds annually. With 660 turkey farms and 450 growers, Minnesota contributes 18% of U.S. turkey production, emphasizing the dedication and passion of its turkey growers.

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan celebrated the contributions of Minnesota's turkey growers, noting the importance of their work in feeding the nation. She expressed gratitude for the industry's impact on local communities and the global market.

Minnesota is home to several key players in the turkey industry, including Jennie-O Turkey Store in Willmar, Turkey Valley Farms in Marshall, Northern Pride in Thief River Falls, and Select Genetics, the nation's largest turkey hatchery. These operators are renowned for their farm-to-table products, further cementing Minnesota's reputation as a leader in turkey production.

The event served not only as a Thanksgiving celebration but also as a recognition of the state's vital role in agriculture and the poultry industry at large.
