Minnesota Harvest Progressing Ahead of 5-Year Average



According to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, scattered storms gave farmers 4.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Field activities for the week included combining, tilling, and manure applications.

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 17 percent short, 74 percent adequate and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 9 percent very short, 32 percent short, 57 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain reached 53 percent, two days behind last year but 11 days ahead of the average. Corn moisture content of grain at harvest averaged 18 percent. Corn condition rated 37 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans harvested reached 91 percent, three days behind last year but two weeks ahead of the average.

Dry beans harvest was 97 percent complete. Potatoes were 92 percent harvested. Sunflowers reached 40 percent harvested. Sunflower condition rated 47 percent good to excellent. Sugarbeets reached 38 percent harvested. Sugarbeets condition rated 74 percent good to excellent.

Pasture condition was 14 percent very poor, 23 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 19 percent good and 5 percent excellent. No reports of livestock losses were received.
