Minnesota reports strong progress in crop harvesting

By Scout Nelson

According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Minnesota benefited from above-average temperatures and minimal precipitation, providing 6. 3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending November 19, 2023.

The favorable weather conditions facilitated various fall fieldwork activities, including row crop harvesting, tillage, and cornstalk baling. The livestock sector reported no significant issues during this period.

Soil moisture levels were varied, with topsoil moisture rated at 9% very short and 60% adequate. Subsoil moisture followed a similar pattern, with 12% very short and 50% adequate.

Corn harvest for grain was nearly complete, reaching 97% completion, which is slightly behind last year but a week ahead of the five-year average. The average moisture content of the harvested corn was reported at 17%. Sunflower harvest also saw considerable progress, reaching 93% completion.

These statistics from the USDA are vital for understanding the current state of agricultural activities in Minnesota.
