Minnesota Soy Growers Join Global Talks

Minnesota Soy Growers Join Global Talks

By Scout Nelson

Minnesota soybean farmers are playing an important role in promoting sustainable agriculture around the world. With support from the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), they are taking part in global conferences to share their environmentally friendly practices and support international markets.

At The Economist’s 10th Annual Sustainability Week in March 2025, Minnesota growers helped highlight U.S. Soy’s role in carbon sequestration and sustainable food systems. This event drew over 1,500 leaders from business, government, and academia, with strong interest in how agriculture can support climate goals.

“U.S. Soy farmers can often provide the solutions global customers are seeking to accomplish their sustainability goals,” said a participant. Farmers spoke about data-driven farming and using technology like soil maps to make informed decisions that benefit both crops and the planet.

At the U.S. Soy Americas Agribusiness Sustainability Conference (SussCon) in Guatemala in January 2025, Minnesota producers participated in panels and private meetings. They explained how their regenerative practices protect the environment and improve food systems. Eighteen new companies also joined the movement by adopting the Sustainable U.S. Soy label.

“I believe people want to hear from producers and what practices they are using on their own farming operations, and I received a number of questions,” one grower said during the event.

Minnesota farmers also contributed to climate conversations at COP29 in Azerbaijan in November 2024. They spoke on carbon farming and the bioeconomy, sharing how they help capture carbon and protect soil health. Global leaders listened, showing growing respect for farmers’ input in shaping climate policy.

“At the first few meetings, farmers were ignored, but I think we’re getting our voice now. The next conference will have a huge focus on agriculture,” one attendee said.

Through these efforts, Minnesota soybean farmers are strengthening U.S. Soy’s reputation as a sustainable choice, building trust, and creating opportunities in international markets.
