Minnesota State Fair Highlights DNR's Natural Wonders

Minnesota State Fair Highlights DNR's Natural Wonders

Get ready for an exciting fusion of nature and fun at the Minnesota State Fair from Aug. 24 to Sept. 4. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is gearing up to connect fairgoers with the state's vibrant natural resources. As DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen expressed, the fair offers a lively way to explore outdoor recreation and conservation in Minnesota.

Steeped in history, the DNR's iconic State Fair log building first opened its doors in 1934. Today, its park-like ambiance remains a haven among the hustle and bustle of carnival rides and stalls.

This year, visitors can anticipate a variety of activities:

• An enlightening talk about Minnesota fish at the outdoor fish pond.

• Personal interactions with knowledgeable DNR staff.

• Discovering outdoor recreation opportunities.

• Tapping their feet to music or presentations on the outdoor stage.

• And capturing memories with photos of giant butterfly wings or inside a giant hiking boot.

The fair will also unveil a series of new attractions for 2023:

• Dive into Parks and Trails Careers, Trivia challenges, and sing along with Smokey Bear.

• Learn about Wildland Fire Careers and mountain biking's rise in Minnesota.

• Engage in outdoor skills games and hear riveting tales of Mississippi speed records.

• Enjoy performances from bands like Marv Gohman & Kaatwalk and South 40 Band.

• The Raptor Center will introduce audiences to majestic birds of prey. Monarch Joint Venture will discuss the iconic butterfly's challenges, while experts share insights about pollinators.

For kids, an augmented reality sandbox will demonstrate Minnesota’s landscapes and geography. Plus, daily attractions include a Nature Store, raptor displays, and a partner booth from the Minnesota Historical Society.
