Storms and heavy rainfall limited farmers to 2.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 1 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 35 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 9 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 27 percent surplus.
Corn planting reached 35 percent complete, compared to 94 percent last year and the 5-year average of 72 percent. Soybean planting was 11 percent complete, compared to 85 percent last year and the 5-year average of 47 percent.
Planting progress for spring wheat is at 5 percent, oats at 44 percent, barley at 16 percent, dry edible beans at 1 percent, potatoes at 36 percent, and sugarbeets at 8 percent.
All hay condition was rated at 8 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated at 13 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
