Renew your pesticide certification before March 2024

Private pesticide applicators needing to renew their certification by March 1, 2024, to use restricted-use pesticides must complete their recertification by the end of February 2024.  Certification status can be checked at https://z.umn.edu/PPAlookupMDA, with a $75 fee for each recertification option, valid for three years.

Recertification Options:

  1. In-Person Workshop:
  • Review regulations, safety issues, and latest research.
  • Full attendance required; bring photo ID and Certification Card/number.
  • Walk-ins welcome; payment by check.
  • Pre-registration is available online, not by phone, mail, or email.
  • Check for updates at www.pat.umn.edu, or call 1-800-232-9077.
  1. Online Workshop:
  • Zoom workshops on Feb 14 (Fruit & Vegetable focus) and Feb 29 (Crops focus).
  • Limited space, pre-registration needed.
  • Visit www.pat.umn.edu for details.
  1. Online Exam:
  • Take the exam at www.pat.umn.edu under “Exam” section.
  • Study manual (19th edition) available online at no cost.
  1. Written Exam:
  • Mail-in written exam available at county Extension offices.

For New or Expired Certifications:

  • Must take online or mail-in exam.
  • Exam options are open until October 31, 2024.
  • Successful candidates eligible for recertification after 3 years.

This recertification process is essential for all private pesticide applicators to maintain their ability to use restricted-use pesticides effectively and safely.
