Rollins Streamlines U.S. Pork and Poultry Processing

By Jamie Martin

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has introduced new measures aimed at streamlining pork and poultry processing in the U.S. These actions are designed to reduce administrative burdens on the industries, improve efficiency, and keep food safety standards intact.

“America leads the world in pork and poultry production, and we are committed to ensuring our producers remain competitive on a global scale without being held back by unnecessary bureaucracy,” said Secretary Rollins. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are cutting unnecessary red tape, empowering businesses to operate more efficiently, and strengthening American agriculture – all while upholding the highest food safety standards.”

The new policy directs the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to eliminate outdated requirements that have slowed production and increased costs for U.S. producers. By reducing these bureaucratic hurdles, the policy aims to make production more efficient and competitive.

A key part of the reform includes extending waivers that allow pork and poultry facilities to maintain higher line speeds. This will help facilities meet rising demand without excessive government intervention. FSIS will begin formalizing these speed increases through rulemaking immediately.

Additionally, the policy removes the requirement for plants to submit redundant worker safety data. Research has shown no direct link between processing speeds and workplace injuries, making this requirement unnecessary. These changes will help reduce operational costs for producers, strengthen U.S. food production, and create a more resilient supply chain.

These efforts aim to improve the efficiency of the pork and poultry industries, helping producers remain competitive while maintaining food safety standards.
