The Land Stewardship Project (LSP) welcomes Scott Elkins as its new executive director, marking a significant milestone in the organization's 41-year history of land and community preservation. Elkins, a seasoned grassroots organizer and leader, assumes the helm of both LSP and its advocacy action arm, the Land Stewardship Action Fund (LSAF).
Coming from a lineage of Texas cattle ranchers, Elkins brings a wealth of experience gained over three decades of empowering local communities. Previously an LSP organizer in the late 1990s, he played an important role in safeguarding farmland in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Elkins then dedicated himself to the Sierra Club, serving at the state and national levels, including as the national director of volunteer and leader engagement.
Under Elkins' leadership, LSP aims to amplify its impact on rural communities and the agricultural landscape by promoting regenerative, family farm-based agriculture. With a focus on sustainable practices, community engagement, and economic resilience, Elkins aims to challenge the common belief that farming communities are neglected and disregarded.
LSP's recent achievements in soil health, beginning farmer training, farm business transition, policy advocacy, and community food systems have push the organization into an era of expansion. During the latest Minnesota Legislative session, LSP's members successfully championed policies supporting regenerative agriculture, soil health, and rural communities.
LSP, a private, nonprofit, membership-based organization founded in 1982, serves the Upper Midwest region and maintains offices in Lewiston, Montevideo, and south Minneapolis. With Elkins at the helm, LSP is primed to strengthen its position as a driving force in land preservation and the advancement of regenerative agriculture
