The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is actively seeking public input through October 19 on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) associated with the Lake Bronson Dam rehabilitation project.
This vital project focuses on the improvement of the Lake Bronson Dam's safety, addressing its current deteriorating condition. Notably, the rehabilitation endeavor encompasses the removal and replacement of the 85-year-old concrete spillway and the associated Kittson County Highway 28 Bridge. (Please note that the DNR is closely monitoring the existing structure's conditions to ensure public safety until the project's completion.)
A digital copy of the Environmental Assessment Worksheet is readily accessible on the dedicated project page hosted on the DNR website: Lake Bronson Dam Rehabilitation Project Page. Additionally, those interested may request a hard copy of the EAW by calling 651-259-5122.
For public review, physical copies of the EAW are available at the following locations:
• Hallock Public Library, 163 3rd Street South, Hallock, MN 56728.
• Lake Bronson State Park, 793 230th St, Box 9, Lake Bronson, MN 56734.
The Environmental Assessment Worksheet was published in the September 19 issue of the Environmental Quality Board Monitor, and it can be accessed via the following link: EQB Monitor - Volume 47, Number 38.
Comments on the project are encouraged and must be submitted by no later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19.
Mailed comments should be directed to Becky Horton, EAW project manager, Ecological and Water Resources Division, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, 500 Lafayette Road N, St. Paul, MN 55155. Alternatively, email comments can be sent to environmentalrev.dnr@state.mn.us, with "Lake Bronson Dam Rehabilitation" clearly indicated in the subject line.
It's important to note that individuals providing a mailing address or submitting comments via email will receive a copy of the decision document, which includes responses to comments. As part of the public record for this environmental review, commenters' names and email or postal addresses will be published and made publicly available in the submitted materials. Your insights and feedback are valuable contributions to ensure the success and safety of the Lake Bronson Dam rehabilitation project.
