The University of Minnesota Extension is offering a valuable opportunity for those involved in agriculture. Their Slayton Winter Crops Day and Small Grains Program is scheduled for February 22 at the Marry County 4-H building in Slayton. The event is set to start at 8:30 a.m. with registration, followed by a day-long program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This program is a chance to delve into the latest university-based research and information critical for corn, soybean, and small grain production. The morning session will concentrate on corn and soybean management, addressing topics relevant to the region. In the afternoon, the focus will shift to small grain management with the Southern Small Grain Workshop.
Participants are encouraged to register by February 20 to ensure adequate provision of program materials and food. Registration is available online at z.umn.edu/2024WinterCropsDay or by calling the Murray County Extension Office at 507-836-6927.
The day's agenda includes insightful presentations by experts:

- Brad Carlson on nitrogen management.
- Dave Bau on the 2024 outlook.
The Small Grains program, led by specialist Jochum Wiersma, will cover production agronomics, variety selection, soil fertility, and economics. This discussion-based meeting will cater to the specific needs of area producers.
This event, sponsored by local businesses, is free to attend and offers a platform for farmers and agricultural professionals to update their knowledge, discuss pressing issues, and engage with specialists in the field.
