The University of Minnesota Extension in Wright County is excited to announce the Farmer-to-Farmer tour, designed specifically for new and beginning farmers. This educational tour will provide participants with the opportunity to visit three unique farms, where they will hear directly from farmers about how they built their small farming businesses.
The tour will take place on a bus, departing from the Wright County Extension office between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., and returning by 12:45 p.m. A grab-and-go lunch will be provided upon arrival back at the office. Please note that riding the bus is mandatory for this event due to limited parking at some of the tour locations.
Tour Stops:
- Deer Lake Orchard in Buffalo: Participants will experience a behind-the-scenes look at a family-run apple orchard that offers seasonal activities such as wagon rides, a corn maze, and more.
- Living Song Farm in Howard Lake: Discover how a fourth-generation sustainable farm focuses on organic garlic and pasture-raised beef.
- The Little Boon Farm in Maple Lake: Learn from a CSA vegetable farmer about the challenges and successes of starting a small farm.
Karen Johnson, Extension livestock educator, shared her enthusiasm for the tour: "This event offers an excellent opportunity for aspiring farmers to gain insights into what it takes to establish and operate a small farm."
Thanks to the support from NCR SARE and Wright County, the tour is free to attend, but space is limited. Registration is required by October 21 to secure your spot and guarantee a lunch.
The University of Minnesota Extension is committed to providing equal opportunities for all participants. If you require accommodation, please contact the event organizer at least two weeks before the event.
