Webinar on Deep Winter Greenhouse Heat Systems and Trade-Offs
Minnesota Ag Connection - 04/05/2021

The University of Minnesota (UMN) Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships will be hosting a webinar featuring Shannon Mutschelknaus (Wayward Springs Farm) and Dan Handeen (UMN Center for Sustainable Building Research). The two will discuss their experiences concerning heat storage and thermal mass applications in passive solar winter greenhouse systems.

Shannon Mutschelknaus is a mechanical engineer with 20 years experience with thermal design, research and testing of large electronics mega-systems. He owns and operates Wayward Springs farm where he raises Scottish Highland beef, Jacob sheep, fruit trees, produce, and children. He uses his year-round passive solar greenhouse to conduct research projects and to feed his obsession with growing rare fruit trees.

Dan Handeen has designed the University of Minnesota's Deep Winter Greenhouse 2.0 and the Farm Scale Winter Greenhouse, both of which are available for free download on the RSDP's Deep Winter Greenhouse Resource website at https://bit.ly/2Pvb3VA.

The webinar will occur on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to attend, but registration is required. Register at z.umn.edu/DWGspring21-1
