Market, Music, Food at 24th Lake Superior Harvest Fest
Minnesota Ag Connection - 09/08/2017

From wellness and nutrition to traditional skills and a massive farmers market, this year's Harvest Festival, set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 9 at Bayfront Festival Park in Duluth and hosted by the Sustainable Farming Association's Lake Superior Chapter, has something for everyone.

This year, the 24th annual version of Duluth's biggest farmer's market event features expanded demonstrations and crafters as well as how-to sessions on planting garlic, folk craft skills, composting and recycling, electric bicycles and cars, and solar hot water panels.

The heart of the festival is the market, and this year will be rich with fermented foods, caramels, cookies, fruit bars, spiced nuts, glorious flowers, nutrient-dense vegetables, wild-crafted harvests, and so much more. The Food Court is pleased to welcome a taste of Mexico this year with El Oasis Del Norte joining an already delicious array of food.

Attendees will also enjoy the music of Rigadoo, Woodblind, Red Tide, Crystal City and Skrunch Brothers, and other performing artists will provide demonstrations. Learn a traditional Maypole dance or watch a blacksmith at work as Harvest Festival highlights sustainable living in the northwoods.

The festival strives to be a zero-waste event: almost everything is composted or recycled, and Duluth's EcoRotary will be on hand to educate fairgoers.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free family friendly event to help promote sustainable local food production as a key component of a healthier economy, environment and community in the Lake Superior region. Free limited parking is available.
