AFREC expands membership with new roles

The Agricultural Fertilizer Research and Education Council (AFREC) is actively seeking new members to join its mission of advancing soil fertility research, education, and outreach across Minnesota.

About AFREC

AFREC is a farmer-led initiative that raises funds through fertilizer sales in Minnesota. The funds, typically exceeding $1 million annually, are allocated to soil fertility research and education through a competitive proposal process.

Membership Expansion

Following 2024 legislative updates, the council seeks two new members with expertise in public health and water quality research. These roles aim to broaden the council’s perspectives and strengthen its research initiatives.

Application Details

Interested individuals can apply through the Secretary of State’s website. Applications are open until December 20, 2024. Selected members will begin their three-year term in February 2025.

Council Structure

With the addition of these roles, AFREC will expand to 15 members, consisting primarily of agricultural professionals and farmers. The council’s mission focuses on improving soil fertility practices and promoting sustainable farming in Minnesota.
