Delaware Farm Bureau elevates farm safety awareness

Delaware Farm Bureau elevates farm safety awareness

By Jamie Martin

Delaware Farm Bureau's Promotion and Education (P&E) Committee recently hosted its annual Ag Safety Conference, gathering farmers and community members to prioritize safety in agriculture and rural living.

Since its inception in 2017, the conference has expanded its focus, covering topics such as rural road safety, machinery handling, and mental health. June Unruh, chair of Delaware Farm Bureau's Ag Safety Subcommittee, emphasizes the importance of integrating safety into daily routines to prevent accidents.

At the 2023 conference, a panel of farmers shared safety experiences, emphasizing the importance of caution on the farm. These discussions forged new connections between rural and urban communities and facilitated valuable partnerships.

The success of the Ag Safety Conference was recognized with the 2024 New Horizon Award from the American Farm Bureau Federation, acknowledging innovative programs promoting agricultural safety and education.

Looking forward, the Delaware P&E Committee aims to expand the conference's reach and continue advocating for agricultural safety year-round, ensuring safety remains a priority for farmers and communities statewide.
