In 1944, a couple started their 240-acre farm, unaware of the remarkable journey it would become. Decades later, their daughters ventured back to their rural roots to create a community-supported agriculture (CSA) operation on the farm, beginning a transformative story of regenerative agriculture and sustainability.
Over the years, Earthrise Farm Foundation grew into a hub for learning, where children and college students came to understand the importance of the land and its beings. The farm's spirituality was deeply rooted in the Earth's story, and they celebrated Earth Sabbath Prayer Gatherings annually, promoting unity with nature.
As the farm transitioned back to the family, new ideas took root. A young farmer embraced the concept of regenerative agriculture, incorporating diverse farming practices while promoting soil health and biodiversity.
Regenerative farming emphasizes mimicking nature, reducing soil tillage, and using cover crops to prevent erosion and support pollinators. The farmer's dedication to sustainability led him to study Kernza, a perennial wheatgrass developed by agricultural institutions. This grain enriches soil, serves as livestock grazing space, and is now used in various industries.
Throughout this journey, Earthrise Farm remained a center of love and community-building. It united environmentalists and local communities, spreading awareness about the benefits of regenerative agriculture.
Today, Earthrise Farm stands as a testament to the power of embracing sustainable practices in agriculture. As farmers and others continue to explore new frontiers in regenerative farming, they demonstrate that a connection to the land and a commitment to the environment can create a brighter, sustainable future.
