Minnesota will joyfully celebrate National Farmers’ Market Week between August 6-12, 2023. This celebration is even more special as it ends with an event on August 12, recognizing the Winona Farmers’ Market’s golden anniversary.
Assistant Commissioner Patrice Bailey of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture voiced that farmers' markets are essential in linking consumers to fresh, local, and healthy foods. These markets' contributions are worthy of a grand celebration.
At the Winona event, attendees will enjoy shopping from over 30 vendors, live music, arts activities, a cooking demonstration, and speeches from important guests. A social media photo contest will shine a spotlight on the farmers, vendors, and marketgoers making the market community vibrant.
This year’s event centers around the theme, "Farmers’ markets are leading the way! Community, Culture, Land." With a record 375 farmers’ markets throughout the state, agriculture continues to be a fundamental aspect of Minnesota's economy.
Executive Director Kathy Zeman of the Minnesota Farmers’ Market Association praised the farmers, food entrepreneurs, and market organizers for leading the way in strengthening local food practices and community ties.
National Farmers' Market Week, sponsored by the USDA, highlights the significance of markets in the US food system. In Minnesota, it's a joint effort by Minnesota Grown, Minnesota Farmers Union, and Land Stewardship Project.
