Join the excitement at Gopher Dairy Camp this June

By Scout Nelson

Registration is now open for the annual Gopher Dairy Camp, set to take place from June 20-22 at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.

Hosted by the Gopher Dairy Club in partnership with the Minnesota 4-H Dairy Project Committee and the Minnesota Livestock Breeders’ Association.

The camp aims to deepen participants' understanding of the dairy industry and enhance their cattle management skills.

The camp is tailored for students who have completed grades 6-9 and offers workshops focused on dairy technology, show ring performance, and cattle fitting techniques.

Participants will stay at the Frontier Residence Hall, which is equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, private rooms, and enhanced security, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment.

Key activities include the Gopher Gold Auction, where campers can choose a calf from the St. Paul dairy herd to prepare and present in the show ring. Experienced cattle fitters will provide guidance and demonstrations, helping campers ready their calves for competition.

The event culminates in a showmanship contest, allowing the young dairy enthusiasts to demonstrate their newfound skills. Additional activities include social mixers and a trip to Grand Slam Sports in Burnsville, fostering camaraderie and fun outside of the educational sessions.

The registration fee is $75, covering housing, meals, and all camp materials. For more information or to register, prospective attendees are encouraged to learn more through the camp’s registration portal.

This camp offers a unique opportunity for youth to engage with peers who share their passion for dairy, all while gaining valuable hands-on experience in dairy management.
