Minnesota state fair awards youth scholarships

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota State Fair, a pivotal event showcasing the state’s agriculture, art, and industry, has proudly announced the recipients of its Youth Scholarship for 2024. This year, 24 talented youth from greater Minnesota have been honored for their outstanding contributions to youth livestock programs and their active participation in local communities.

Among the scholarships, 22 promising students received the Minnesota State Fair Scholarship, with each scholarship valued at $1,000. These scholarships are specifically targeted towards rural youth or those engaged in agriculture-related studies for the academic year 2023-24. Additionally, two individuals were awarded the $2,000 Trade Scholarships, aimed at supporting careers in skilled trades or further training.

The honored recipients include a diverse group of students from various towns across Minnesota, such as Rachael Dose from Arlington and Tyler Ratka from Cold Spring. Each recipient has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and achievements.

The Minnesota State Fair has a long tradition of supporting educational initiatives, having distributed nearly $600,000 in scholarships since 1994. These efforts are supported by the Minnesota State Fair Foundation and underscore the fair’s commitment to fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders.

As the fair continues to be a self-supporting entity without government funding, it remains a cornerstone of Minnesota’s cultural and educational landscape.

The 2024 Minnesota State Fair, scheduled from August 22 through Labor Day, promises to be another exciting chapter in this storied event, widely recognized as one of the best-attended expositions globally. More information about the fair and its scholarship programs can be found on its official website.
