New fertilizer terminal launched by nutrien

By Scout Nelson

Nutrien has officially opened its new 40,000-square-foot fertilizer terminal in Randolph, Minnesota, strategically located just 13 miles south of Minneapolis. This state-of-the-art facility aligns with Nutrien’s strategy to optimize its NPK distribution network, offering enhanced access and efficiency for customers and growers in this crucial agricultural market.

The new terminal is expected to significantly reduce costs for Nutrien’s upstream business by providing dedicated in-market storage and increased flexibility.

“Nutrien has an unparalleled network of distribution assets to safely and reliably deliver the crop nutrients our customers need, where and when they need them,” said Mark Thompson, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer.

“This investment in our new Randolph terminal is consistent with our strategy to continue strengthening the cost-position and efficiency of our North American distribution footprint, competitively positioning us to meet the evolving needs of the market for decades to come.”

The Randolph terminal boasts approximately 20,000 tonnes of dry fertilizer storage, covering potash, nitrogen, and phosphate products, and is supported by the capacity to accommodate around 65 rail cars on-site. The facility also features the innovative TerminalBoss automated scale, designed to streamline operations and enhance customer experience.

“We are excited to continue enhancing the strength of our network through targeted investments, just as we did with the Hammond, Indiana potash distribution facility that opened in 2016,” said Elan Strueby, Vice President, Transportation, Distribution & Logistics. “Once up and running at full capacity, we expect over 65,000 tonnes of product to move through the Randolph terminal annually.”

With this new addition, Nutrien now operates approximately 440 wholesale fertilizer distribution points, including 21 terminals, reinforcing its strong position across the agricultural value chain to efficiently meet the needs of its customers.
