Ohio Soil Health Week, celebrated from November 9 to 15, brings communities together to recognize one of the state’s most valuable natural resources—its soil. This special week highlights the importance of maintaining healthy soil for farming, the environment, and future generations.
Throughout the week, Ohioans can participate in a variety of activities designed to raise awareness and promote sustainable soil management. Events include farm tours, educational webinars, film screenings, and networking sessions that connect farmers, students, and community members. These activities aim to inspire people to take part in conservation practices that keep soil productive and resilient.
In celebration, the Wood Soil and Water Conservation District is inviting the public to visit its office at 1616 E. Wooster St., Suite 32, Bowling Green. Visitors can see the creative “Soil Your Undies” display, which demonstrates soil activity and microbial life in an engaging way. They can also pick up a free DIY “Make a Model Soil” kit to explore how different layers of soil function.
Ohio Soil Health Week serves as a reminder that healthy soil supports food security, clean water, and a thriving ecosystem. As local farmers and communities unite for this weeklong celebration, everyone is encouraged to play a role in caring for the soil that sustains life..
