The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (MSR&PC) recognizes the importance of supporting young farmers and their growth in the agricultural sector.
To encourage this, the MSR&PC continues to commit soybean checkoff resources to reimburse young farmers who complete the Minnesota Private Pesticide Applicator certification. This initiative is particularly aimed at Minnesota farmers aged 18 to 45, who can apply for a $75 reimbursement.
Reimbursement will be available to the first 100 applicants before the deadline of August 31, 2025. “As an organization, we’ve made it a priority to invest in the next generation of producers,” said MSR&PC Director Gene Stoel.
“By reimbursing farmers for completing the certification, we’re promoting younger farmers while also ensuring safe pesticide application.”
The Private Pesticide Applicator certification is a requirement for farmers and others producing agricultural commodities who use Restricted Use Pesticides (RUP) for pest control.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) mandates this certification to ensure the safe use of pesticides in farming operations. Farmers must recertify every three years to maintain their certification status. If you are unsure about your recertification status, you can check through MDA’s License Lookup Page.
MSR&PC aims to wisely direct checkoff investments to enhance the profitability of Minnesota soybean farmers. By offering this reimbursement for the third consecutive year, they hope to motivate young farmers to gain the knowledge and confidence necessary for the responsible use of pesticides.
With over 16,000 certified private pesticide applicators in Minnesota, the MSR&PC continues to support farmers by providing the necessary resources for their success.
“During these trying economic times, anything we can do to help the young and emerging farmers save a dollar here and there means a lot,” noted MSR&PC Director of Research David Kee. He emphasized the success of the reimbursement program over the past two years and hopes to build on this achievement.
