Minnesota Ag Connection - 05/15/2019

Representatives from the National Potato Council and Potatoes USA were in the North Dakota and Minnesota region last week to tour some local farms and visit directly with growers.

The National Potato Council's soon-to-retire CEO John Keeling, incoming CEO Kam Quarles and new COO Mike Wenkel all attended. Potatoes USA sent its chairman, Phil Hicks from Virginia and CEO Blair Richardson.

The group met with Keith McGovern from RDO and Potato Extension Agronomist Andy Robinson in Fargo. Stops then included the Carl Hoverson Farm near Larimore, J.G. Hall and Sons and the Brad Nilson Farm at Hoople and Campbell Farms in Grafton. Andy Robinson and NPPGA's Donavon Johnson and Ted Kreis helped host the tour.

Mike Wenkel said, "Special thanks to Andy Robinson of North Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota. His expertise in potato production challenges in both states was extremely valuable."

The group also met with some other growers in Grand Forks on Tuesday evening before heading to Deulm, Minnesota for a Minnesota Area II visit on Wednesday,

"Thanks to the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association, Minnesota Area II Potato Research and Promotion Council and Potatoes USA for the warm hospitality and education. Building on these great relationships is a top priority for both Mike and I as we move into our new roles," said Kam Quarles.
