Craig Denounces EPA's Small Refinery Waivers
Minnesota Ag Connection - 08/12/2019
Following the EPA's announcement that it plans to issue 31 small refinery exemption waivers under the Renewable Fuel Standard, Rep. Angie Craig issued the following statement:
"After listening to farmers at FarmFest this week about the state of the farm economy, I am infuriated that the Administration chose to issue additional small refinery biofuel waivers on the backs of Minnesota farmers. Despite record low commodity prices and an
escalating trade war, this Administration has continued to backhand farmers for the gain of oil executives. American farmers deserve transparency on who is receiving these waivers, and we need to put a stop to this practice once and for all."
As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Craig has advocated for biofuels, understanding the crucial role they play in providing markets for Minnesota farmers. Earlier this year, she joined a bipartisan letter urging the Administration to end its unfair
practice of issuing small refinery waivers to big oil companies, which allows oil executives to profit while Minnesota farmers face disappearing markets and low commodity prices. She has also:
- Cosponsored the Biodiesel Tax Credit Extension Act of 2019
- Joined a bipartisan letter to urge the Administration to consider the impact its year round E-15 rule would have on RIN sales the biofuels market.
