76 Percent of Minnesota Hay Good to Excellent



Favorable weather conditions allowed farmers 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 5 percent very short, 18 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 13 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus.

Corn condition was 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Soybean emergence was at 98 percent, 18 days behind last year and 6 days behind the 5-year average. Soybean blooming was at 6 percent. Soybean condition was 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.

Oats was 89 percent jointing and 32 percent headed. Oats condition was 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Spring wheat was 86 percent jointing and 5 percent headed. Spring wheat condition was 0 percent very poor, 0 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 68 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Barley was 65 percent jointing and 17 percent headed. Barley condition was 0 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.

Dry edible beans were 96 percent emerged and 9 percent blooming. Dry edible beans condition was 0 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Sunflowers planted was at 97 percent. Sunflowers condition was 0 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 66 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Alfalfa hay first cutting was at 94 percent and second cutting was at 16 percent.

Potatoes condition was 0 percent very poor, 0 percent poor, 13 percent fair, 66 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Sugarbeets condition was 4 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 10 percent good, and 55 percent excellent.

All hay condition was rated at 0 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 17 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.
