Collin Peterson, a prominent figure in American agriculture, has been honored with the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) 2025 Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award.
This prestigious recognition was announced during the AFBF's 106th Convention held in San Antonio, from January 24-29. Peterson's remarkable career and enduring commitment to the agricultural sector have earned him this high honor, underscoring his influence and dedication.
The Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award was established by AFBF in 1928 to acknowledge individuals who have significantly contributed to American agriculture's national interests. Alongside Peterson, Mark Haney, recognized with the Farm Bureau Founders Award, was also celebrated at the event for his leadership and service.
Throughout his four decades of service, Peterson has been a vocal advocate for agricultural communities. His legislative career in Minnesota’s seventh congressional district is noted for his strategic roles on the Agriculture Committee, where he influenced crucial farm bill negotiations in 2008, 2014, and 2018.
His leadership facilitated the advancement of policies supporting farmers and ranchers across the United States.
Even after his congressional tenure, Peterson continues to impact the agricultural field through his leadership roles. He founded the Midwest Council on Agriculture and the Peterson Group, both of which focus on advocating for sustainable agricultural and economic policies.
Upon receiving the award, Peterson expressed his gratitude and reflected on his collaborative efforts within the agriculture community. His achievements resonate deeply within the sector, characterized by his straightforward and bipartisan approach, which has consistently facilitated clear communication and decisive action in agricultural policymaking.
The accolade not only celebrates Peterson’s past contributions but also his ongoing commitment to the agricultural community, showcasing the profound respect and admiration held for him within the industry.
This award highlights Peterson’s legacy as a staunch supporter and advocate for the agricultural sector, marking a milestone in a career dedicated to service and leadership in agriculture.
