Farm Bureau's strategies for rural growth

Farm Bureau's strategies for rural growth

By Scout Nelson

As the Minnesota legislature prepares to convene on January 14, 2025, the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) is eager to collaborate with state officials to champion the interests of farmers and rural communities.

The organization’s policy direction, rooted in a member-driven and bipartisan approach, ensures that it remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of its constituents.

MFBF has outlined several key areas of focus for the legislative session, each aiming to address critical aspects of agriculture and rural life:

  • Generational Farming: Support initiatives that facilitate the transfer of farms across generations to maintain the vitality of family farms.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Promote sustainable agricultural practices through practical and science-based conservation policies. This includes encouraging voluntary measures and securing necessary funding.
  • Research & Innovation: Invest in research and development to cultivate innovative agricultural practices and technologies, thereby shaping the future of farming.
  • Economic & Rural Prosperity: Advocate for policies that enhance economic opportunities and bolster resources essential for the prosperity of rural areas.
  • Animal Emergency Preparedness: Strengthen state readiness to handle and prevent crises affecting livestock, ensuring quick and effective responses to protect both animals and farmers.

Throughout the legislative session, MFBF plans to maintain a constant presence at the Capitol, advocating for these priorities. Additionally, members are invited to participate in the annual Day on the Hill on March 18, coinciding with National Agriculture Day, to further engage with legislators and influence agricultural policies.

By focusing on these strategic areas, MFBF aims to secure a prosperous future for farming and rural communities in Minnesota, ensuring that agriculture continues to thrive as a cornerstone of the state’s economy and cultural heritage.
