This June, youth in Chippewa, Kandiyohi, and Swift counties have the opportunity to participate in crucial Livestock Quality Assurance (LQA) training. The training session is scheduled for Monday, June 17, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the scenic Red Barn at Louriston Dairy, located at 6008 90th Ave NE, Murdock.
The LQA program is essential for any young individual planning to exhibit livestock at the prestigious Minnesota State 4-H Livestock Encampment. To qualify for participation in their local county fair, attendees must complete their LQA training, which is valid for three fair seasons.
Training is organized into two levels based on school grades:
- Youth in grades 6-8 are eligible for Level 1 training if certifying for the first time, or Level 2 if they are recertifying.
- Youth in grades 9-11 will participate in Level 2 training directly.
Children in grades 3-5 do not require LQA training. The event is free of charge, but registration is mandatory and available through 4-H Online. With space limited to 25 participants per level, early registration is recommended to ensure a spot.
This LQA training not only prepares the youth for showing their livestock but also instills valuable skills such as responsibility, animal welfare, and ethics in agricultural practices. These lessons are essential for fostering knowledgeable and conscientious future farmers.
