Are you a small farm or urban farm looking for ideas for low-cost washing stations? Training from University of Minnesota Extension educators and the Good Acre staff will focus on setting up and using mobile handwashing stations for safely washing fruits and vegetables.
The training takes place June 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Good Acre, 1790 Larpenteur Ave W, Falcon Heights.
Four farm attendees will get to take home a complete wash line (partially disassembled for transport.) All attendees will get to take home a mobile handwashing stand kit.
Goals of this training include:
- Understanding best practices to improve the safety and quality during the washing of fresh fruits and vegetables
- How to wash and rinse vegetables to prepare for market and to improve shelf life and postharvest quality
- Cleaning and sanitation of tools and equipment for food safety and reduction of plant disease
All participants must register. Space is limited. Register by 5 p.m. June 14 at https://z.umn.edu/GAPsFieldDay.
The cost is free and a light dinner will be provided.
Organizers thank Minnesota Farmers Union for the generous support via a USDA NIFA Food Safety Outreach Program grant for funding for the mobile wash stands and for food.
