Learn About Anaerobic Digestion at AURI’s May Event

By Scout Nelson

“Do Not Waste Your Waste.” This motto perfectly represents the work AURI (Agricultural Utilization Research Institute) is doing to transform agricultural waste into valuable resources. AURI is a nonprofit organization that helps producers, entrepreneurs, and agribusinesses expand market opportunities for agricultural-based products.

The organization works on over 200 projects each year and has catalyzed over $187 million in new annual sales for businesses.

The upcoming Monthly Speaker Series, scheduled for Thursday, May 15th, via Zoom, will focus on AURI’s renewable energy programs, particularly the use of biomass feedstocks. The event will run from 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm, with networking from 5:45 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by the speaker session from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The primary focus of the speaker session will be an overview of anaerobic digestion (AD) and its role in agricultural waste management.

Although anaerobic digestion is not a new technology, it has seen a resurgence due to its effectiveness in addressing environmental challenges, such as waste management and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. AD also contributes to rural economies by producing renewable energy and improving crop nutrient management. This process breaks down organic material, such as agricultural waste, in the absence of oxygen to create biogas, a renewable energy source.

By using AD, AURI helps farmers and agribusinesses reduce waste while generating clean energy. The event will provide a valuable opportunity to learn how this technology works and how it can benefit both the environment and the local economy.

Join AURI on May 15th to explore anaerobic digestion and its potential to turn agricultural waste into energy and economic opportunities for rural communities.
