Farmers interested in improving soil health and boosting forage resources can attend the Roots and Rotation event on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Central Time. Hosted at Port-Haven Dairy and Portner Farms in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the event focuses on integrating livestock onto cropland.
Attendees will hear from University of Minnesota Extension educators and experienced professionals who specialize in soil, crops, and livestock. The sessions will highlight the benefits of livestock integration, including better soil structure, increased nutrient cycling, and extended forage systems.
“Learn about the benefits of integrating livestock onto cropland and how to make it work on your operation. Hear from experienced farmers and Extension educators specializing in crops, livestock, and soil health.”
The event is tailored to farmers looking for practical strategies to enhance the productivity and sustainability of their cropland. Participants will have the chance to network, ask questions, and see real-life examples of how livestock systems have been successfully added to crop-based operations.
The registration fee is $15 for Minnesota Grazing Lands Conservation Association members and $20 for non-members. Early registration is encouraged by July 7 to help organizers plan meals for attendees.
To register, participants can call Star Nelson at 507-838-0569 or email star.nelson@mnglca.org.
For more information, contact Gabi Bolwerk, Extension educator, at gbolwerk@umn.edu or 218-726-6462.
