Minnesota 4-H Event Supports Youth Learning

Minnesota 4-H Event Supports Youth Learning

By Scout Nelson

University of Minnesota Extension will host a livestock committee meeting on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 7 p.m. CDT. The event will take place at the Becker County Extension Office located at 1120 8th St. SE in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The meeting is open to interested 4-H youth members and volunteers who want to become more involved in local livestock activities and future educational programs.

The livestock committee meeting will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss important topics related to youth livestock projects, county events, and upcoming educational activities. Organizers hope the meeting will encourage greater participation among young people while also helping volunteers contribute ideas for future livestock programs in the community.

The event is designed to support youth development through hands-on agricultural learning experiences. Livestock activities in 4-H programs often help students build leadership, teamwork, communication, and responsibility skills. By joining committee meetings and educational programs, students can gain valuable knowledge about animal care, project management, and agricultural leadership.

University of Minnesota Extension continues to support educational opportunities that help young people learn practical skills and strengthen community involvement. Meetings like this also allow volunteers and families to stay informed about county livestock activities, fair preparation, and future projects connected to 4-H programs.

The event is free to attend, and organizers stated that no registration is necessary. Interested participants can arrive at the Becker County Extension Office before the meeting begins. Community members involved in livestock education or youth programs are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.

University officials also shared information regarding accommodations for individuals with disabilities. “University of Minnesota Extension is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs, services and activities.” Individuals needing accommodations are encouraged to contact the event organizer at least two weeks before the meeting. Requests received after that date will still be honored whenever possible.

The meeting will be delivered in English. Interpreter services may also be available with an advance request. Organizers hope the gathering will provide a welcoming and educational environment for youth and volunteers interested in livestock education and leadership opportunities in Becker County.
