Minnesota Youth Win AFBF Awards

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation reported strong participation and major achievements during the 2026 American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention. These highlights showed the state’s leadership in youth programs, policy engagement, and rural community development.

MFBF President Dan Glessing remained available for media interviews to review convention activities and discuss legislative priorities that were set during the national voting delegate session. These interviews helped share important policy updates and future goals with the public.

Minnesota had three representatives competing in the Young Farmers & Ranchers contests. Hannah Molitor of Stearns County took part in the Excellence in Ag contest and advanced into the Top 10 among more than 30 contestants. Dylan and Shelby Radke of Beltrami County competed in the Achievement Award category, while Katie Saterbak of Swift County participated in the Discussion Meet contest.

Katie Wiese of Cass County was elected secretary of the AFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee. She earned a one-year leadership term and had previously served on the Minnesota committee, including holding the chair position. Her election reflected Minnesota’s strong involvement in developing future agricultural leaders.

Minnesota also received the New Horizon Award for its Rural Healthcare Initiative. This program worked to address shortages of healthcare workers in rural areas. The award recognized Minnesota’s innovative efforts to improve access to healthcare services in farming communities.

Cindy Durheim of Pine County took part in several convention events as part of her role on the AFBF Promotion & Engagement Committee. Her participation supported outreach efforts and strengthened connections within the agriculture community.

The convention also featured a panel discussion that included national leaders who addressed key agricultural topics. These included the need for a new five-year farm bill, development of domestic and international markets, access to a stable workforce, and the value of grassroots' involvement in advocacy.

Minnesota also had three voting delegates who took part in the national delegate session. Their participation ensured that the state had a voice in shaping policy positions that guide future agriculture programs and national priorities.

Together, these activities showed Minnesota’s strong leadership, commitment to rural development, and continued support for agriculture at the national level.
