AgriCapture has achieved a groundbreaking success in climate-smart agriculture by selling 30,000 methane emission reduction credits from its significant rice methane reduction project.
This sale, the largest of its kind in U.S. history, financially rewards farmers who have adopted innovative irrigation techniques that decrease methane emissions and conserve water.
“It’s rewarding to work with AgriCapture and participate in a program that has financially strengthened our family farm, all while enhancing our environmental stewardship,” said Franklin Fogleman, an Arkansas rice farmer involved in the project.
Farmers in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas have adopted methods such as alternate wetting and drying and furrow irrigation, leading to a substantial decrease in methane emissions—by up to 60%—and saving over 9 billion gallons of water.
These carbon credits, verified by the Climate Action Reserve, enable farmers like Gavin Sullivan to invest in sustainable practices. “The sale of these credits provides an economic return for being better stewards of our rice farm,” Sullivan noted.
AgriCapture's initiative not only facilitates environmental benefits but also connects farmers to growing environmental markets, offering new revenue streams and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
The company plans to expand its efforts, bringing more nature-based carbon credits to market and empowering agriculture as a vital climate solution.
