The University of Minnesota Extension is hosting an informative webinar session focused on agrivoltaics, the growing practice of combining solar energy production with agriculture. This event highlights the practice of sheep solar grazing, where livestock graze under and around solar panels.
Agrivoltaics is gaining attention for its ability to use land efficiently by combining two valuable activities—renewable energy generation and agricultural production. In this session, participants will hear directly from sheep producers who have firsthand experience managing grazing operations on solar farms. They will share their knowledge about how solar panels can benefit pasture growth, animal welfare, and land productivity, as well as discuss any challenges they face in this unique system.
This webinar is ideal for livestock producers, agriculture educators, solar developers, agency staff, and researchers interested in sustainable practices and land-use innovations. It is a great opportunity for participants to learn how grazing animals like sheep can play a role in supporting clean energy while maintaining productive farmland.
The session is free to attend, but registration is required to receive the link. The webinar will be conducted in English, and interpreter services may be provided upon request if made in advance. The University of Minnesota Extension is committed to making its events accessible to everyone. If you need accommodation for a disability, you are encouraged to reach out to the event contact two weeks in advance.
“Solar grazing is a unique solution that supports both agriculture and clean energy,” shared one event organizer.
This session offers valuable insight into how agrivoltaics can benefit both farms and the environment by making the most of shared land use.
