Soil and Nitrogen Conference Scheduled

Soil and Nitrogen Conference Scheduled

By Scout Nelson

The Nitrogen Conference will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in St Cloud, Minnesota. The event will focus on how nitrogen management affects crop production, soil productivity, and the environment. It will bring together researchers, crop advisers, and industry professionals to discuss current challenges and solutions.

The registration cost is $20. Participants may attend offline or virtually. Lunch will be included for those attending offline. The conference will provide valuable research updates and practical insights for better nutrient management decisions.

The program will include presentations on nitrogen management and crop production. Experts from the University of Minnesota will share research findings on important topics. One session will provide a detailed look at data behind the MRTN calculator.

Another will examine in-season mineralization of cover crop residue in sugar beet. Precision irrigation and nitrogen management tools will also be discussed, along with research on predicting fertilizer needs after fall-applied manure.

Sessions will also focus on nitrogen and soil productivity. Presenters will discuss research on biological products for smarter nutrient management. Another session will explore the role of soil organic matter in maintaining nitrogen sustainability. The program will also include a panel discussion reviewing lessons from the 2025 growing season.

Environmental concerns will be another major topic. Experts will present information on nitrates in water in southeast Minnesota and outline nitrogen priorities for water quality improvement. The conference will also include a session evaluating nitrogen inhibitors and their role in agriculture.

Certified crop advisers can earn continuing education credits in soil and water management as well as nutrient management by attending the conference.

This event provides an important opportunity to learn about the latest nitrogen research and management practices that support productive crops, healthy soil, and clean water. Early registration is encouraged.
