Minnesota Corn and Soybean Forecasts Down from 2020

Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.36 billion bushels, down 6% from last year, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service - Crop Production report. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average 174.0 bushels per acre, up 8.0 bushels from the August 1 forecast but a decrease of 18.0 bushels per acre from last year. Corn planted acreage is estimated at 8.30 million acres, down 200,000 acres from the August 1 forecast. An estimated 7.80 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain, also down 200,000 acres from last month's forecast. Acreage updates were made based on a thorough review of all available data.

Soybean production is forecast at 359 million bushels, down 560,000 bushels from last year. The yield is forecast at 47.0 bushels per acre, up 4.0 bushels from the August 1 forecast but down 2.0 bushels from 2020. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 7.70 million acres with 7.63 million acres to be harvested.

Sugarbeet production is estimated at 11.4 million tons, up 2% from last year. Yield is forecast at 26.6 tons per acre, up 0.1 ton from the August 1 forecast and up 0.5 ton from last year.
