Minnesota Hog Invetory Unchanged from 2019

On September 1, 2020, there were 9.20 million hogs and pigs on Minnesota farms, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service -- Hogs and Pigs report. Inventory is down 4% from the previous quarter, but no change from the previous year.

The June-August 2020 quarterly pig crop was 3.30 million head, down 6% from the previous quarter and 8% below last year. A total of 280,000 sows farrowed during this quarter. The average pigs saved per litter was 11.80 for the quarter.

As of September 1, producers planned to farrow 270,000 sows and gilts in the September-November quarter and 255,000 head during the December 2020-February 2021 quarter.
