Minnesota Cattle Industry Convention: Defend Your Legacy

The 2018 Minnesota Cattle Industry convention is an event that brings together Minnesota farmers and ranchers, as well as many other beef industry stakeholders for educational opportunities, policy discussion and development, and cattle focused trade show. The Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association will host the 2018 annual convention and trade show Dec. 7 and 8 at the Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria. The convention will feature MSCA's annual Cattlemen's College series featuring timely topics and speakers to help you defend the legacy you've worked generations to build! Additionally, attendees will take in membership meetings and networking opportunities with fellow cattlemen and local, state and national leaders and beef industry partners.

Special guests at this year's convention include Jennifer Houston, National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) president-elect; Don Schiefelbein, NCBA vice chair of policy; along with many other agriculture industry leaders and elected officials from across the state. Other convention highlights include MSCA and MN Cattlewomen annual meetings, live & silent auctions, setting 2019 legislative priorities and excellent networking opportunities with legislators, government agencies, beef industry partners and fellow cattle producers.

Key agenda items include:

- Trade Trends and Growing Markets - Greg Hanes, vice president for international marketing and programs, U.S. Meat Export Federation

- Right to Farm: BMPs for protecting yourself from activists and nuisance lawsuits - Matt Berger, agriculture attorney, Gislason & Hunter, LLP

- A path forward: A panel of Millennial and others with zero farm exposure. Moderated by House Ag. Finance Committee Vice-Chair Tim Miller

- Manure and Cover Crops: The When, Where and How of Manure Application to Balance Cover Crop Nutritional Needs - Melissa L. Wilson, Ph.D., assistant professor and Extension Soil Scientist, Manure Nutrient Management & Water Quality

- Legislative updates from both the Minnesota State Cattlemen's Government Relations team and the NCBA team

- Disaster preparedness. "Peace Time" Vs. "War Time" tools and how to use them - Dr. Danelle Wickett-Weddle, Center for Food Security and Public Health, Iowa State University

- MSCA Best of Beef Banquet and annual meeting
